Course code: ARCH311
This module is designed for Year 3 students and covers acoustics, artificial lighting, and thermal environment. This module aims to introduce the design of environmental systems for large buildings based on user requirements, give insights and background into the selection of appropriate equipment and materials, and their integration into building fabric and structural systems, and equip students with the foundational knowledge needed to engage in technical discussions within design teams.
Course code: ARCH717
This module is designed for MSc students and is offered during the Autumn semester. The module aims to provide knowledge of the types and range of environmental assessment techniques currently available, explore how some of these techniques are applied in practice, and examine how these techniques can be used to enhance the sustainable performance of building designs. In particular, the module addresses room acoustics design principles and the use of ray-tracing software in the context of acoustics.
Course code: ARCH480
This module is designed for MArch students and focuses on developing the key skills required to prepare a written dissertation in architecture. It includes a series of lectures, seminars, and exercises. Each year, the module features lectures and seminars specifically addressing research methods in acoustics.
Course code: ARCH504
This module is designed for MArch students and aims to provide students with the opportunity to explore an aspect of architecture systematically and in detail, as well as to present their findings in an academic format. Students who choose acoustics-related topics are supervised by staff at the Acoustics Research Unit.
Training title: Certificate of competence in environmental noise measurement
